Palestinian sources in Gaza announced yesterday an increase in the unemployment rate to 75 percent, with poverty rising to over 90 percent due to the ongoing Israeli war since October 7, 2023.

"The poverty rate in Gaza has risen to over 90 percent amidst the Israeli war," the source said. "

Additionally, around 95 percent of economic establishments in the sector have completely ceased operations due to the bombings and destruction."

Emphasizing the unprecedented humanitarian conditions, the source noted that workers in Gaza are facing unprecedented circumstances with an unemployment rate of 75 percent compared to 46 percent before the war, coupled with the 18-year-long blockade.

The source added that Israel killed thousands of Palestinian workers during the war on the Gaza Strip, where nearly 2.3 million Palestinians reside, pointing out that over 200,000 individuals lost their jobs during the first 3 months of the war, including nearly 5,000 fishermen.

The situation in Gaza continues to be dire, with unemployment and poverty reaching alarming levels as a result of the prolonged conflict and blockade.
